Earth Mantra Netlabel

Darrell Burgan

Earth Mantra Netlabel is a privately owned and operated ambient music label that exists for the sole purpose of sharing the music of certain artsts that we feel are of interest to ambient fans. Unlike a typical label, all of the music on Earth Mantra is available freely for non-commercial use. In other words, it is free to download our music and share it with other people, as long as it is for non-commercial purposes, proper credit is given to the artist and to Earth Mantra, and no modifications to our releases are made. We call Earth Mantra a "netlabel" since this is the traditional way to refer to any music label that distributes its music under a Creative Commons license. For specific details surrounding our license and what you may (and may not) do freely under it, please visit the Creative Commons site.

We are dedicated to publishing only high quality ambient music from some of the best musicians around. We work hard to carefully select those titles we will release and to ensure they are the kind of music that we think our listeners will love. Our artists range from world-reknowned folks who have played at the highest levels of the music industry to artists who are completely unknown and make music out of their homes. To Earth Mantra, the paramount factor is the quality of the music. It is our goal to bring the best ambient music possible to our listeners.

earman141 - Specta Ciera - Accumulation Section Earth Mantra is very proud to welcome another new artist to our roster of contributors, this time Devin Underwood and his enigmatic experimental ambient music project Specta Ciera. Devin has always been deeply interested in the creative uses of sound design, and with his debut Earth Mantra release "Accumulation Section", he does not disappoint. earman147 - Guenter Schlienz - The Sardinian Tapes Earth Mantra celebrates the addition of another new artist to our roster of contributors, this time German analog synthesist Guenter Schlienz and his delectable new album "The Sardinian Tapes". And what an engaging collection of music this album contains. Distantly evoking the melodic analog synth grooves of Saul Stokes, though with a much slower, more mellow aesthetic, we think "The Sardinian Tapes" will put a smile on your...

earman121 - Palancar - Serenitatis For the past several years, Darrell Burgan has focused his musical efforts under the Palancar name on live ambient improvisations. As a result, his recent album releases have been almost nothing but recordings of those live performances. In early 2009, however, Darrell was inspired by Chuck van Zyl of Star's End Radio (www.starsend.org) to attempt a sequel to his 2003 commercial release "Elysium Planitia". This new Earth Mantra release, an album...

earman181 - Robert Carty - Photonic Movements There is no aspect of running a netlabel that is sweeter than when we get to release an album by one of our very favorite artists. Today we have that distinct pleasure, as we present the first release by Robert Carty on Earth Mantra, his exquisite new album "Photonic Movements". Robert Carty is justifiably beloved as one of the masters of pure space music, and as one of its most prolific artists as well. For nearly two decades now, he has...

earman168 - EugeneKha - Low Sky Our friend Evgenij Kharitonov returns to Earth Mantra with another resplendent collection of ambient electronic pieces called "Low Sky". One of the hallmarks of Kharitonov's music is his surprising diversity. Every time we think we have figured out what genre label to apply to his music, he produces a new release that confounds our previous definitions. Thus far, on Earth Mantra alone, Evgenij has covered territory as far separated as dark ambience,...

earman000 - Earth Mantra - Unreleases From time to time, an Earth Mantra artist will come to us wanting to make a particular track or set of tracks public, but without having to put together an entire album around the concept. Given that Earth Mantra has always insisted on releasing full-length albums, "LP's" in...

earman118 - Nettless - From Beyond We've often mentioned how much we enjoy meeting a new artist and releasing their music for the first time. Such is the case with this beautiful release, by Finnish ambient artist Nettless, entitled "From Beyond". earman186 - Sergio De Vega - The Edge Of Forever It is time for another Earth Mantra release. Likewise it is time to welcome a new artist to our family, this time ambient explorer Sergio De Vega and his brand new release "The Edge Of Forever". We have long been fans of Sergio's deep and introspective ambient guitar work, having listened to many of the pieces he has made available on the Internet Archive under the moniker Srg. So when we learned we had the opportunity to release a...

earman071 - Mystahr - Into The World Of "Into The World Of" may be experimental/ambient noise artist Mystahr's first release on Earth Mantra, but it is also another brilliant link in a long chain of superb albums by this Netherlands-based sound alchemist. Typically, Mystahr's work tends towards the noisy and harder-edged realms of experimentalism, but with this release the noise softly subsides to make room for a deeper flow, a more subtle and elegant immersion into an exotic sound...

earman179 - Palancar - Elysium Planitia We have another Palancar release in store for you today, this time a re-release of a title originally from 2003. Called "Elysium Planitia", this is a collection of ambient space music that was described by one fan as "the quintessential Mars album". Originally released commercially on Blue Water Records, this album is now re-released and available freely under Creative Commons via Earth Mantra. The 'prequel' in many ways to Darrell...

earman068 - Arcticology - Haven Just as if he were an old friend returned from a long journey away, we welcome our friend Dale Humphries back to the shores of Earth Mantra with this beautiful new Arcticology release 'Haven'. And what a return he has made. Arcticology has always been about pure blissful ambience, but he has truly outdone himself with this striking release. Heavenly waves of sound ebb and flow like tides on a timeless shore, while the artist's trademark attention to structure and...

earman148 - Deep Chill Network - Dream Companion We are very happy to welcome Deep Chill Network to our collective, with their debut Earth Mantra release entitled "Dream Companion". Over the years Deep Chill Network has created several sets of CDs, each with slightly different themes, among them the "Cyber Sleep" series, the "Dreams" series, and the "Frozen Tundra" series. Each of the titles in these collections delivers fairly minimal drones, but...

earman088 - Darkened Soul - Seasons of Dark and Light It's been quite some time since the last release by Mike Soucy on Earth Mantra. But the wait has been very much worth it. Mike's latest chapter in the Darkened Soul series, entitled "Seasons of Dark and Light", is a gorgeous and deep collection of moderately dark ambient music. And by deep, we mean all the way to the abyssal depths. What a collection of music this is. Certainly the music retains Darkened Soul's trademark dark...

earman090 - Stephen Philips - The Massive Jupiter Stephen Philips returns to Earth Mantra, this time with a powerful and edgy longform power drone called "The Massive Jupiter". Imagine yourself on a space ship, hurtling towards the largest planet in our solar system. Immersed in the vast silence and gravitational freedom of interplanetary space, we float, serene and perfectly still. But the globe of that giant planet grows ever larger out the front window, foreshadowing the coming...

earman070 - Palancar - Ambient Train Wreck Back Catalog Collection Twelve The twelfth release in the series of Ambient Train Wreck back catalog releases by ambient/electronic artist Palancar. One of the many aspects of Palancar's music is live performance, both in front of live audiences and over live net radio. As part of his weekly net radio program over the past several years, Palancar has done many live improvisational ambient performances, which the artist nicknamed "Ambient Train...

earman084 - Palmer Eldritch - Revelations I Earth Mantra welcomes another new artist to our fold, this time an anonymous musician who prefers to remain mysterious, an attribute that we think he has achieved in spades. Take, for example, his response when we asked him to share his thoughts about his new album: "The only thing I wanted to achieve was to give the listener a feeling of despair. I am not interested in melody, nor in radiofriendliness. There is no thought, no theory behind my...

We have long been fans of Thomas's work, constantly amazed by both the amount of material that he produces, the consistent quality of that material, as well as the unending stream of new ideas that come out of his studio. With "EarthWaves", Thomas does not disappoint, delivering a new and very...

earman094 - Darren Harper - Time Forgotten Earth Mantra again has the pleasure of welcoming a new artist to our humble netlabel, this time an ambient musician hailing from Colorado by the name of Darren Harper, who brings us this exquisite collection of introspective ambient pieces called "Time Forgotten". earman098 - mindSpiral - Curiosa Positronica In April of 2009, Mike Metlay launched the latest of his mindSpiral collaborative projects. This version, the eighth incarnation so far, was a trio composed of David Herpich (better known as Emerald Adrift), Darrell Burgan (better known as Palancar), and of course Mike himself. The central purpose of this version of mindSpiral was to compose and rehearse music for a live performance taking place at the Fiske Planetarium in Boulder, Colorado, on April...

earman087 - Arcticology - Eternal Now Throughout our days on this earth, there are people who come and go, but there are always those life-long friends who touch our lives repeatedly, from whom we may be separated for long periods of time but who always return to joyous reunion. With such friends we can truly share the story of our lives, for they have the history with us to really know and understand that story - and likewise we know them so well as to understand theirs. So it is sometimes...

earman143 - Lucette Bourdin - Horse Heaven Lucette Bourdin is clearly in a zone. How a solo artist can so prolifically create album after album of pure beauty, without ever taking her eye off the ball, is quite beyond our capacity to explain or understand. But create copiously she does, her standard of excellence never wavering, her music ever enchanting the listener. And the latest in her sequence of ambient masterpieces is this delightfully mysterious album called "Horse Heaven"....

earman176 - Arcticology - Athena Earth Mantra is very happy to welcome back ambient maestro Dale Humphries and his Arcticology project, with his wondrous new release "Athena". Our listeners and artists alike will know that Earth Mantra has a strong preference for full-length albums, and that in particular we do not like to release EP-length titles. This is primarily because we think ambient music requires time to fully establish itself in the mind of the listener, and there just isn't...

earman193 - Gregg Plummer - Free Some ambient albums seem to be collections of lovely but disparate pieces, each a delightful experience but with no particular meaning for the album itself. Others possess a cohesive theme for the collection, but attach no significance to the order in which the pieces appear. Finally, some albums combine consistent subject matter with a strong chronology, presenting the listener with a story, an aural journey that offers the most value to the listener who can...
